Why Filter?
The water that reaches your shower has travelled a long way
Australian mains water leaves the treatment plant safe to use. Between there and your bathroom, it travels kilometres of public pipework, then the pipes inside your own home. What arrives at your shower head is not always identical to what left the plant.
Treated water and filtered water are not the same thing
Treatment happens once, at scale, before distribution. Its job is to make water safe to drink across an entire city. Point-of-use filtration happens at the last metre, in your bathroom, and its job is different: to reduce what remains in the water at the moment it touches you.
Chlorine
Chlorine is added to Australian mains water as a disinfectant, and it stays in the water all the way to your tap. That is by design. It is also drying on skin and hair, and it is the reason filtered water often feels different in the shower.
Chlorine is what AQUESSENCE filters are built to reduce.
Sediment and rust
Older pipe runs shed fine particulate. You may have seen it after mains work in your street, when water runs cloudy or slightly brown for a while. Mesh and micro-porous layers capture this material before it reaches you.
Minerals and hardness
Dissolved calcium and magnesium make water hard. Hardness varies enormously across Australia and is what leaves white residue on shower screens and tapware. It is a visible, cosmetic problem rather than a safety one.
AQUESSENCE filters are not designed to soften water or remove hardness. We would rather tell you that than let you buy the wrong product.
Contaminants you cannot see
Some substances have been documented in Australian water supplies in scientific and government reporting. These are real subjects of study, and we cover the published evidence on our Science of Aussie Waters page, with sources.
AQUESSENCE filters are not independently verified to remove PFAS or dissolved heavy metals. Removing those requires different media and laboratory testing that we do not currently have. We say so plainly rather than implying otherwise.
Visible problems and invisible ones
Water issues fall into two groups. Visible ones you notice without being told: residue on glass, dry skin after a shower, a chlorine smell. Invisible ones only appear in testing.
AQUESSENCE addresses two specific, well-understood problems: free chlorine and particulate. That is a smaller claim than most brands in this category make. It is also one we can explain.
Check your own suburb
Water quality varies by region and by street. Before buying anything, look up your own area.
Check the water quality in your area
AQUESSENCE is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any disease. Our filters reduce free chlorine and capture rust and sediment. They are not independently verified to remove PFAS, dissolved heavy metals, or water hardness.
